To be addicted is to be dependent on something and not able to stop that.
TV, sex, food, soda, exercise, internet and video/tv games are recently discovered to be serious potential addictions.
These are the symptoms you get from addictions.
- Occupation : you are occupated by the object or habit all the time, even if you’re not doing it, you’re spending your time thinking of it.
- Bipolarism : it makes you happy, but only in short term but when you’re without it you’re back to being depressed again
- Increased tolerance : you need more and more of it everytime to get satisfied.
- Withdrawal Symptom : you get used to the object and when you quit it you face difficult physical and psychological problems.
- Conflicts : you often get into conflicts with the people around you for this object. Though the real conflict is the inner conflict, it's often about breaking a promise you made to yourself.
- Relapse : most addicts tries to stop, some succeeds in short term, but after that they get a relapse.


Some behaviors shown when having an addiction:
  • physical injuries or unexplained repeated injuries
  • slurred speech
  • rapid talking
  • persistent cough (smoking)
  • engages in risky behavior
  • marked fall in academics or job
  • depressive talk
  • track marks
  • unexplained weight loss

What causes addiction?
It’s not possible to determine the exact reason for an addiction. Though, it’s proven that the risk of developing an addiction is higher under certain psychosocial circumstances.

Affected by Family, Childhood, School and friends. It’s said that genes can affect addictions, such as alcohol addiction, but that really depends on the social situation in your family. When the group you belong to accepts and expects certain behaviour you often take those values.

What most serious addicts have in common is insecurity, insecurity caused by lack of experience, love, attention and/or abuse, bullying and other traumas.
